When is it no longer healthy to work with a client?

Just wondering everyone's thoughts/opinions on this one.

What are some situations you have run across where you just felt you couldn't work with a particular client anymore?

Were you allowed to terminate with them?

What have you done in the meantime if you had to remain with them?

  1. I have come right up to that line, but never quite crossed it. A couple of people I work with I would LOVE to give to anyone else. Actually, I did have one guy who had a history of stalking women at our agency, all of whom looked a lot like me. Why they made me his primary after that I don't know. I finally got him tranferred to an ACT team, better to have 7 people checking in on him than just me (and better not to be stalked...)

Also, I got your comment on my blog, and I would love any help you can give me contacts-wise. I'm looking for something in mental health at a community agency or hospital. I'll probably live up by Columbia so Manhattan, Brooklyn, Bronx should all be doable. Not sure how easy it would be for me to get to Queens though. Thanks! And good luck with your difficult client...

  2. Hi,
I have this happen from time to time for various reasons. Sometimes when I've just been completely worn out by someone to be honest or they have become worn out by me. I can't explain it but its some kind of mental block arrives and the connection just seems to fail. My manager is good about switching people around because we don't ask often.
I can't explain when it is I know. It isn't immediate but maybe when I just feel my own mental block coming in the way.
