When is it no longer healthy to work with a client?

Just wondering everyone's thoughts/opinions on this one.

What are some situations you have run across where you just felt you couldn't work with a particular client anymore?

Were you allowed to terminate with them?

What have you done in the meantime if you had to remain with them?

More fill in the blanks.........

1. My most prized possession is my yoga studio. "Yoga saved my life. I now have the flexibility to cope, the calm to breathe, and the strength to hold on."

2. If I could be one age for the rest of my life, I would want to be in my late teens and early twenties. I thought life was so complicated and difficult back then. HA!

3. The best way to spend a weekend is relaxing, with no set plans and having random, fun, unexpected things that come up at the last minute. My weekends are usually a lot less stressful when I just take them as they come :).

4. My outlook on life is that it is absolutely what we make of it. The way I see it is you have two choices: you can choose to wallow with a rotten outlook, or you can accept what cannot change and be happy with what you DO have. (Also never compare yourself to others. This is poison, and we never, EVER know what is the reality with another person's life).

5. If you want to annoy me, just be a total complain drain. It's perfectly okay to vent from time to time, but sometimes you just need to suck it up and move on.

6. I am completely defenseless when it comes to my son. Even when he pisses me off, I can't stay mad at him for very long :).

7. When dressing for the day one should go with whatever the heck makes them feel happy and comfortable.

Death of a client

I've written about this a little on here before when I went to help identify the body of a former client with a colleague.

Today I attended a wake for the first time, for a client who passed. There were many emotions going through my mind at once. Awkward, yet nice seems to describe it best. I was able to see the client was finally at peace. I also felt acknowledged, that even though I was no longer working with her, the family still remembered me and my efforts with someone who could be extremely difficult to work with to say the least.

I went back and forth over the past couple of days on whether or not it was appropriate for me to attend, what would I say, how would I feel, would it be upsetting for me and how would the family feel about that...........but in the end I am glad I went.

The hardest part was deciding it was okay for me to go.

Positives of the week!!!!

Well, first and foremost, the weather is FINALLY starting to get sunny and nice around here. I sincerely hope this means spring has officially sprung. When it's warm and bright out, I don't mind being out and about in the field visiting my clients.

Some other positivies:

1.) I found a few resources that may be able to help many of my clients financially or with providing of needed items if something arises.

2.) Came across some other promising housing leads.

3.) Was praised for my work by someone in a very high-powered role who does not like many people ;).

4.) Got one of my clients some needed legal assistance pro-bono.

5.) Had another client EXCITEDLY agree to follow through on a suggestion I thought he would most likely turn me down on.

6.) Finally getting over my cold/stomach thingie.

7.) Made it to hot yoga twice this week. (Not as much as I would've liked but I was still feeling ick on Monday + Tuesday).

8.) DH is finally starting to make $$$$$ again.

9.) DS vocabulary has blown up even more this week, and so has his height!

10.) Again, made it to Friday! Corned beef and cabbage dinner tonight too, yay!

Happy St. Paddy's!

I love this song. It will also be special to me because today is also the Founder's Day for the sorority I was part of in college, DPhiE. Our mascot is also a unicorn.......

I really like this song

Positives in Socialworkerland this week :)

1.) Got a client to agree to recommendations of the team so he can remain in the community.

2.) FINALLY got a client who has been running around wild for the past 6 months, admitted to inpatient psych.

3.) A cool, positive new staff member has been added to our team.

4.) Another client does NOT have bed bugs :)

5.) My job is going to get me a Blackberry so I can cancel mine......even if it costs me $200.00 to cancel, it's still gonna save me over $100.00 a month.

6.) Our office that is 5 minutes from my house (and in a much nicer location.....think outdoor lunches and walks on a lake) has been approved to provide the service I do at present.......so I can work from there soon.......

7.) It's FRIDAY again...........which means I'm working from home ;).

One more........

1. The phrase or punctuation I overuse most is ..... "this is so ridiculous" followed by "this is absolute nonsense" ending with "That's it, I'm applying to Starbucks after work today!".

2. Today I am thankful for my gas and electric bill going down this month! My total payment owed for both is what I normally pay for one of them :).

3. My best friend is most definitely my little boy. I have never known this kind of love before!

4. A quirky thing about me is that I am scared of birds.

5. This weekend I am celebrating my twin nieces birthday on Saturday. Sunday I am thinking of going to a "message board meet up" for a local one I spend way too much time on LOL.

6. Something that worries me is lack of money/debt.

7. On my night stand you would find a bunch of colorful scarves, a purple box filled with junk, a stack of books, a butterfly print and some body sprays from Bath & Body Works.
